Time for Rumors -- Cocoa for Windows
This time of the year, some people get excited about Christmas, and the presents they got (or gave). For some others, the presents are Yet to Come, in the form of the Grand Father Chritmas called Steve making his entrance in Jan. 10th, in a Quicktime Player near you...
Now, as we've come to expect of him, and Father Christmas, there should be an element of surprise in the game.
So, what if...
"One more thing.
Now that we've presented the Intel Macs and blah-blah, how about freezing some more of that Hell we already froze. Like giving them proper tools as well? I mean this...
(picture of XCode user interface revealed)
Now, what's wrong with the picture? (short pause, picture zooms around the edges). Yeah, it's running on Windows Xp.
What we figured is, since iTunes already is the "best Windows program there is", why not let them do others. We're announcing XCode for Windows development platform, with integrated Intel optimizing compiler and such. You will be having time to look at these during the days, we even brought some of those Windows-machines around to demonstrate it.
In fact, you don't need to own one (I wouldn't like you to) since in the new XCode 3 there's a setup option, to generate Windows executables while you're doing your normal work on the Macs. It's cool. (short pause) In fact, we did it so that you don't need an installer for them, just run the .exe as is and that'll be it. I wonder why the Seattle people never did it that way to begin with... (smile)
So, ...
Now, what this offers to you as the developers of Cocoa OS X applications, is a whole new audience, and a whole new customer base. Simply upgrade to XCode 3, recompile your application, and probably do some finetuning here and there. No compromises on the Mac platform, some (but few) in the Windows. Universal binaries, we told you... (grin)
And, to spice this up, we needed to test drive it, so starting today Apple is publizicing iLife -06 for Windows, with the price of $69,95. There, that should keep people busy..
Enjoy your stay in the conference, I'm glad you came."

(( commentary coming here after the show, Steve if you're reading this I don't mind if you use the manuscript. be My Guest. ))
