  • Q: Does OBDScope work on my phone?
A: Some of the compatible phones are listed on the Hardware page. OBDScope has the 7 day trial period. You can actually try it for free.

  • Q: What do I get more if I activate my copy of OBDScope?
A: Basically all the features are included and enabled already in the trial version. Only the two features listed below are disabled. By activating OBDScope following changes will take place:
    • The 7 day limit will be removed
    • Clearing trouble codes will be enabled
    • The Shell interface will be enabled. Please see User's Guide for more information on the Shell.

  • Q: I don't have PayPal account and I don't want to create one. Is there any other method to pay?
A: Yes there is. You can commit an international money transfer to a bank account. Please contact with email for details.

  • Q: I have paid for an activation key but I have not received it. What can I do?
A: The activation key is usually delivered in 24 hours, so please be patient. The key will be sent to the email address defined on your PayPal account. Make sure you poll the correct inbox. If you have not received the key in time, please check your email spam folder, the key may appear there. The activation key will be sent only if you have provided your product key. Please make sure you send your product key with the payment.

  • Q: How is the activation handled if I change my phone?
A: You may continue using OBDScope with the new phone without any extra cost. Just send both old and new OBDScope product keys to email address below. You will receive new activation key.

  • Q: I have recently rebooted/reset my phone and the activation I have bought does not work any more. What can I do?
A: Please switch on Bluetooth before starting OBDScope. Usually this is helps.

  • Q: I have purchased OBDScope activation key, but I don't like OBDScope any more. Can I have my money back?
A: No. We don't apply refund after the activation key has been sent.

Connection with an OBD Bluetooth interface

  • Q: I bought the cheapest OBD Bluetooth interface found in the eBay. The connection is not stable. Sometimes and with some vehicles I cannot connect at all. What can I do?
A: You get what you pay for. By using one of the recommended interfaces with an OBDII/EOBD compliant vehicle there are no such issues. The recommended interfaces are listed in the User's Guide.

  • Q: The Bluetooth connection still disconnects occasionally. What can I do?
    A:
    • Update to version 1.60
    • Set the Speed up connection setting Disabled in General settings.
    • Make sure the OBD-II Bluetooth interface is firmly connected to the vehicle. The interface may get loosened while driving, which causes disconnection.
    • Make sure you use one of the recommended OBD-II Bluetooth interfaces.

Usage and features

  • Q: OBDScope shows there are DTCs. When I try to clear them they do not disappear. What can I do?
A: Clearing DTCs should be done with engine not running and only ignition on. Some vehicles just ignore the clear command if the engine is running. So stop the engine, switch ignition on, reconnect OBDScope and try again. In addition, only the current and pending DTCs can be cleared. Permanent DTCs cannot be cleared. You should also note that clearing codes should be done only after fixing the actual fault that has caused the DTC to appear. If the fault is not fixed, the DTC can appear again right after codes are cleared. OBDScope always reads DTCs again automatically right after clearing the DTCs, so if the fault is not fixed it may seem like the DTCs has never been cleared.

  • Q: OBDScope shows incorrect reading for diesel fuel economy. What can I do?
A: Please try calibrating the fuel economy reading. The calibration process is described in the User's Guide.

  • Q: Diagnosing a vehicle by selecting "Diagnose" from the main menu takes too long. What can I do?
A: Set shorter "Lambda Test duration" and disable "Diagnosis location" from general settings.

  • Q: How can I see the turbo pressure?
A: Turbo pressure is listed as "Intake manifold pressure". All vehicles do not support displaying Intake manifold pressure value. If you cannot see it with OBDScope then it is not supported by your vehicle. By default the unit of the gauge is kPa and shows the absolute pressure. You can switch it to bar or psi with right and left arrow keys or swipe left touch screen action. With bar and psi the pressure is shown as relative a.k.a. gauge pressure.

  • Q: How can I have multiple gauges visible at the same time?
A: Open any gauge and then open a context menu by pressing the Enter key. Then select Layout from the context menu and set the number of gauges as you want. Then you may select the visible gauges with "Set gauge 1 to" -feature found in the context menu.

  • Q: My phone has a touch screen. How can I operate OBDScope gauges without a keypad?
A: All the features are available with a touch screen as well. Tap down and hold on the upper half of a gauge to open a menu. Please see the User's Guide for complete description of touch screen features.

  • Q: Where can I find the enhanced PIDs listing for my vehicle?
A: Enhanced parameters are usually vehicle manufacturer specific and the information required for defining new PIDs at Settings - User defined PIDs is not always publicly available. If you are lucky, you may find the required information from the web. Tmi OBDScope does not maintain lists of this information, and cannot provide any further details.

  • Q: Is it possible to transfer User defined PIDs from a phone to another?
A: Yes it is. Just copy the file userpids.dat found in the obdscope folder on the selected storage.

  • Q: I have selected my language during installation, but OBDScope is still in English. What can I do?
A: OBDScope language is set according to the phone language. Please select your language from phone settings and reinstall OBDScope.

  • Q: I want OBDScope in English, but I get it only in my own language. What can I do?
A: Uninstall OBDScope, select English from phone settings and reinstall OBDScope. After that you may set any language as the phone language and OBDScope remains in English.

  • Q: Will software updates be free of charge for activated users?
A: Yes, versions 1.xx will be free of charge for activated users.

  • Q: How can I read the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)?
A: VIN is available in Options - Vehicle info -dialog. The menu item is available only when the connection is established. VIN is also displayed as part of the diagnosis on the "Diagnosis" interleaf. However, reading VIN is not suported by all vehicles. If the VIN is not available it is not shown as part of a diagnosis and Vehicle info dialog shows N/A.

  • Q: I cannot see the Fuel Economy. Where is it?
A: Fuel Economy reading is available with vehicles having MAF (Mass Air Flow) or MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) value available via OBD. If you don't see Fuel Economy in Gauges list, then it is not available. Average fuel economy feature can be set enabled or disabled at General settings.

  • Q: I cannot find any menu item for clearing DTCs. Where is it?
A: Clearing DTCs and malfunction mndicator lamp (MIL) is available in activated version only.

  • Q: I think I found a bug in the software. How can I report it?
A: You may generate OBD trace files with following instructions and send them to email address below:
    • Set OBDScope - Settings - OBD trace - Enabled
    • Run the software to get the error
    • Restart OBDScope
    • The trace file appears in \obdscope\obdtraces\ folder in the selected storage. See OBDScope - Settings - Memory selection for the selected storage.
    • Set OBDScope - Settings - OBD trace - Disabled

  • Q: I would like to have feature xyz included in OBDScope. Is that possible?
A: Sure. Just email the suggestion to the address below and let's see what we can do.
