PR99 is a MKI if it has a mechanical counter,
MKII if it has auto-locator and brushed aluminum top and bottom
face plate,
MKIII if the lower panel is dark grey.

What is the difference between Studer/Revox PR99 MK I and B77 MK
I ?
The PR99 has balanced inputs and outputs. The transport is identical.
Additionally, the PR99 has tape dump function
(during playback, you can switch off the takeup reel motor and
the tape may go into a dumpster)
19'' rack ears, and fader-start function.
If you want butterfly heads (0.75 mm blank track) you can get them
with the PR 99 only.
AND: The area just in front of the heads is not covered, in contrast
to the B77.

The Revox A-77 doesn't sound as good as the later B-77 and PR-99, but
it's much more reliable. The B-77/PR99 definitely have major problems
with the control button design. These are both high end consumer designs
really, and there are mods for the A-77 available.
