About us

Welcome to our website, I hope you’ll enjoy your visit.
My name is Katja Korhonen, and my family comprises my son Joni. We live in Kempele, south of Oulu in northern Finland. The nearest airport is at half an hour’s distance by car. Our house is located in the small village of Juurussuo, surrounded by quiet beautiful nature. We have forest, fields and a small lake nearby, so the setting is ideal for living with dogs and the family. Our dogs share the house with us, and they have a special area outdoors to spend time in while we go to work in the daytime. We spend most of our leisure time with our dogs in trials, shows, agility and walking in nature.
Our history with dogs dates back to the mid-1980s when we got our first Samoyed to my childhood home. This Samoyed, Tiilimaan Jekku, set the beginning for my enthusiasm with dogs. The breed proved to be an excellent choice, and I got the very first Samoyed of my own in 1990. She was Dollardance Avemarie, who became the foundation bitch of our kennel and provided a solid base for our line. The strong line of bitches goes on from one generation to another. Our co-operation with Pauliina Jäävirta of Dollardance kennels has continued ever since, and with gratitude for all these years I hope to share a common future, too. We would also like to thank our friends Tuula Pratt and Toini Hämäläinen of kennel Humoresque for all the co-operation and assistance we have enjoyed throughout the years, hoping it will continue in years to come.
While I lived at home with my childhood family, my sister bred Finnish Lapphunds under the prefix Little Honey’s, so Lapphunds are also close to my heart. We even had one whippet in the family in those days.
The first Schatzave’s litter was born in 1993, the first of eleven until now. In future, we will breed Flatcoated Retrievers as well, with the aim of breeding healthy, beautiful and working dogs always based on the breed standard. Also the dogs’ temperament and character are essential breed features we foster.
At present, Samoyeds we co-own Niki’s daughter FIN CH Schatzave's Easter Bunny "Bunny", with kennel Dollardance, while Bessi’s daughter Schatzave´s Hermione lives with Katja’s sister Kaisa Heiskanen. Furthermore, Bessi’s daughter of the second litter, Schatzave´s Kiss of Wonder ”Noodi”, lives with kennel Assandine´s and our Italian import male Amarcord “Primo”, lives in Sievi.
We also one flatcoated retriever at home: The bitch FIN CH Toffedreams Seven Steps to Heaven ”Cindy”. We use this dog primarily for hunting, but in summertime we compete with them in hunting trials and at shows. Cindy has proven to be true dual purpose dogs, for which we are truly grateful to their breeders Lena and Claes Sundquist at kennel Toffedreams.
If you’d like to know more details of our dogs, have a look at each dog’s own page.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to see dogs of our breeds and meet fellow enthusiasts around Europe. Our dogs have also been shown in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden and Norway. I have made unforgettable trips to shows abroad, such as the World Winner 2003 in Germany and 2006 in Poland, and Crufts 2004. I would like to thank all friends for sharing these trips with us, and I hope to enjoy many others in days to come.
