Game World
The game world should be very large and very open, except cities, which would be good to do instanced for several reasons. Firstly, to help ease the server load and
secondly, to make it easier to execute future changes to cities.
The main idea is this kind of MadMax/Quarantine/Interstate/Auto Duel, post-apocalyptic world, where cities are walled up safe zones where most people live and the
areas around cities would only be safe to travel by cars. Airspace would be goverment controlled (When I get to write the backstory, this must be explainen well)
above main roads, and elsewhere there is a risk of raiders shooting you down, with the exception of TS choppers (check the Roads and Driving section for more info).
Also one thing that needs to be mentioned here, is that the game has no experience levels. Instead it's completely skill based. This saves it from the common
problem, that after you grind first area through levels 1-10 and then second area through levels 11-20 and so on, by the time you hit level cap, you're actually out of
things to explore. The game has just forced you to see every area there is.
I have also thought about the idea of having several areas and you could move between these areas by booking a plane or ship from one of the major cities.
This way every area could have it's own theme; desert, forest, wastelands etc. But still I feel a bit uncomfortable to keep those themes too tight, but it's just
an idea.
Got a new idea, the game world changes, not much, but little. It shouldn't be too hard to make. Idea is the while main roads stay where they are, there are several spots
for raider bases and roads to them prepared. So at each week, when the time cycle changes, there would be new raider bases on new locations. At the same time, some
of the old bases would be abandoned. To help find active bases, the roads leading to non active bases would start to grow grass and when later a base would
reappear there, the grass would disappear.
More info on game world. One thing that has bothered me from the beginning is the size of the gamee world, I would like it to be huge, but I wasn't sure if that was
possible. Then I remembered one of my favourite game series, 18 Wheels of Steel and I realized how big the game world could actually be. The minimum distance between
any 2 cities should be at least 15min, max 1hour, with average of 30-40mins, when driving according to the speed limit. The whole game world should take at least
6 hours to drive through, even longer when driving from corner to corner. I still haven't though any more about the game map, but I think I'll do that sometime soon.
