Finally my first album will be re-released by Helmilevyt in CD format.
"Sami Kukka" (originally SKLP-88) / helmi 022 will be available on a week 36 which is the first week in september.
You can pre-order it now from www.helmilevyt.com or http://www.levykauppax.fi/artist/sami_kukka/sami_kukka/
I will have several gigs on september and october to celebrate the album and it's 20th birthday. I also wrote my artist name Sami Kukka for the first time to the cover of this album. Even thou I played guitar and wrote songs much earlier ... it still is sort of 20th birthday of Sami Kukka.
At the same time I am working on a new album which hopefully will be released early next year.![]()
"…the world's edge cannot carry anyone or offer anything, it is too fragile…" These words were written in Sami Kukka's diary. The fragments of poetry found there have turned into songs. Emotions surfaced, control was yielded, the wind blew just the right way – songs were born, quiet and intimate. Sami comes from the older, experienced generation of Finnish folk musicians. His eponymous debut album, released in 1988, did not garner the attention it deserved. Sami Kukka recorded this gentle album featuring only his voice and an acoustic guitar during a time when music was usually massive and over-produced. His third album, Kuolema tekee tuloaan (Death on the way), returns to the same quiet atmosphere and the lyrics reach out to envelop the listener. He performs his music alone or in sparse arrangements collaborating with soul mates from the younger generation of Finnish folk: Joose Keskitalo, Paavoharju, and the indie label Helmilevyt. This album was recorded during the month of May in a Finnish lakeside cottage. The nearby farms no longer had any cows, but the sauna was heated more often than not.
